On Sunday, March 7, 2021, a beloved father, grandfather, and extraordinary family member and friend went to live with his heavenly father. Glen Aster Forrest was one of twelve (12) children born August 29, 1946 to the loving parents of Corinth and Nancy (Merriweather) Forrest. He was reared in “The Bottom”, a close-knit community in rural Mercer, Tennessee. His parents always made their family and home their most sincere concern. Glen professed a hope at an early age as he and his siblings were reared in a second home, the “Greater Mercer Baptist Church.”
Glen’s educational experiences started at Denmark Elementary School, and later West High School, Denmark, Tennessee, a 1964 graduate. Afterwards, Glen explored occupational and residential opportunities in other cities. Upon relocation back to the Jackson, Tennessee area, Glen secured employment at McCowat-Mercer Packaging & Printing Company and worked diligently as a “master printing machine operator for a period of thirty (30) years. Although Glen maintained his “day job”, he and other family members/partners had a desire to become small business entrepreneurs in the East Jackson Community. Often met with many business challenges, survival was important. To date, his business ventures, from “Mound City Lounge”; “Forrest Grocery –The Blue Store”; to “F & I Fish Market,” will be identified with his legacy. A popular connoisseur of providing delicious “fish” became Glen’s staple!
Glen was united in holy matrimony to Johnnie Ruth Dethrow Forrest; and later to Earlene Berndette Wilson Forrest. They both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donnie Northern; one brother, James Fairley; four sisters: Jeanette Forrest Finger; Emma Forrest Springfield; LaVerne Forrest King; and Vernice Forrest Glenn.
Memories of a life well spent will be cherished by his: daughter, Nakena Shaunta Forrest, Jackson, TN; three sons: Glenn Fitzgerald Forrest, Smyrna, GA; Brandon Wilson, Jackson, TN; Christopher, Jr. (Reneshea) Forrest, Jackson, TN; one sister: Roberta (Billie) DeBerry, Jackson, TN; four brothers: Robert Forrest, Chicago, IL; Paul (Maxine) Forrest, Jackson, TN; Larry (Barbara) Forrest, Jackson, TN; Kenneth Forrest, Chicago, IL; John (Willie) Forrest, Jackson, TN; One sister-in-law, Shirley Fairley, Westchester, IL; grandchildren: Raven, Alec, Austin, Raegan, Donnie, Jr.; Keymontae, Sierra, Kiera, Ronricus Jr., Annariya, Kaytron, Lakiya, Chrissya, Ashanti, Christopher, Jr., Taylor, Ivana Forrest; and a host of caring nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
